Ingredients
  

For the Dough
  • 3 cups All-purpose flour Whole wheat flour can be used for a healthier option.
  • 1 tsp Salt Enhances flavor.
  • 1 tbsp Sugar Aids yeast activation.
  • 2 tbsp Olive oil Adds richness.
  • 2 tsps Instant yeast Leavens the dough.
  • 1 cup Warm water Just warm enough to activate yeast.
For the Filling
  • 2 cups Shredded mozzarella cheese Other cheeses like cheddar can be substituted.
  • 1 cup Cooked chicken ham Can substitute with turkey or other deli meats.
  • 6 slices Turkey bacon Regular bacon can also be used.
  • 1 cup Diced bell peppers Can swap with other veggies like spinach.
  • 1 cup Sliced mushrooms Make sure they're not too watery.
  • 1 tsp Garlic powder Fresh garlic can be used for bolder flavor.
  • 1 tsp Dried oregano Can use Italian seasoning blend instead.
For Assembly
  • 1 large Egg For egg wash, can omit for vegan option.

Method
 

Preparation Steps
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, salt, and sugar. Create a well and add warm water and olive oil. Stir until a shaggy dough forms.
  2. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  3. Place the kneaded dough in an oiled bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise in a warm spot for 1 to 1.5 hours.
  4. Cook turkey bacon in a skillet until crispy, then chop it. Mix with chicken ham, bell peppers, mushrooms, cheese, garlic powder, and oregano.
  5. After rising, punch down the dough, divide into 6 portions, and roll each into a 6-inch circle.
  6. Spoon filling onto one half of each circle, fold over, and crimp edges to seal.
  7. Beat the egg and brush over the tops of the calzones.
  8. Preheat air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for about 3–5 minutes.
  9. Cook 2 to 3 calzones for 12–15 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  10. Remove and let cool a few minutes. Serve warm with dipping sauce.
