Equipment

  • large oven-proof skillet

Method

Step‑by‑Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your broiler and position an oven rack in the upper third of the oven, about 6 inches from the heat source. Gather your ingredients, measuring out the garlic, onion, and Italian seasoning.
  2. In a large, oven-proof skillet, warm olive oil over medium heat for about 1 minute. Add the minced garlic and onion, sautéing for 2-3 minutes until the onion becomes translucent.
  3. Add the uncooked gnocchi to the skillet, stirring gently to coat them in the olive oil. Cook for about 3-4 minutes until the gnocchi begins to take on a light golden color.
  4. Stir in the shredded cooked chicken, pasta sauce, Italian seasoning, kosher salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
  5. Lower the heat to a gentle simmer, cover the skillet, and cook for about 5 minutes.
  6. Melt butter in a bowl, then combine it with panko breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, and Italian seasoning. Mix until the crumbs are evenly coated.
  7. Remove the skillet cover and sprinkle shredded mozzarella evenly over the mixture. Then distribute the breadcrumb mixture on top.
  8. Transfer the skillet to the broiler and broil for about 5-7 minutes, until the cheese is bubbling and the breadcrumbs are golden brown.
  9. Remove the skillet from the oven and garnish with freshly chopped basil. Serve hot.
