  • 2 cups Powdered Sugar can reduce slightly if desired
  • 2 large Eggs can substitute with applesauce for vegan version
  • 2 tablespoons Milk any milk or non-dairy alternative
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract can swap with almond extract
  • 1 teaspoon Almond Extract optional
  • 4 cups All-purpose Flour can use gluten-free flour blend
  • ½ teaspoon Salt
For the Colors and Decorations
  • few drops Purple Gel Food Coloring recommended for geode effect
  • few drops Black Gel Food Coloring optional
  • as needed Purple Sprinkles substitute with any colored sprinkles
  • as needed Chocolate Sprinkles optional

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions for Geode Cookies
  1. In a large mixing bowl, cream together unsalted butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes. Gradually beat in eggs and milk until incorporated. Mix in flour and salt to form a smooth dough.
  2. Divide the dough into three parts. Color one part with purple gel food coloring, the second with black gel food coloring, and leave the third white.
  3. Roll out the black and white dough into rectangles, stack black on white, then add purple dough with sprinkles. Roll tightly into a log.
  4. Encapsulate the purple log with black and white dough. Roll in black sprinkles, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  5. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Slice the chilled log into ¼-inch rounds, place on a baking sheet, sprinkle with more purple sprinkles, and bake for about 10 minutes.
