  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon cardamom optional
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup plain yogurt or sour cream
For the Topping
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Preparation Steps
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking pan.
  2. Peel, core, and thinly slice the apples; toss with lemon juice.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and cardamom.
  4. Melt the butter and mix with sugar, eggs, vanilla, and yogurt until smooth.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mix, stirring until just combined.
  6. Layer half of the batter in the pan, top with half the apples, then repeat.
  7. Mix sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle over the final layer of apples.
  8. Bake for 40-45 minutes until golden brown; check with a toothpick.
  9. Cool for 10–15 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
