Method
 

Preparation Steps
  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C).
  2. Cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Incorporate the egg and rum until well mixed.
  4. Whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, and cream of tartar, then combine with the wet ingredients.
  5. Roll the cookie dough into 1-1.5 inch balls.
  6. Mix granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves for coating.
  7. Chill the dough balls in the freezer for 10-15 minutes.
  8. Roll chilled balls in the sugar-spice mixture and place on baking sheets.
  9. Bake for 9-10 minutes until tops are crackled.
  10. Cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
