For the Herbs and Cheese
  • 1 tablespoon Dried Oregano Fresh oregano is also fantastic.
  • 1 tablespoon Dried Basil Swap with fresh basil for more flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder Fresh garlic can be substituted.
  • 2 tablespoons Chopped Fresh Rosemary Optional.
  • 1 cup Shredded Mozzarella Cheese Feel free to use Gruyère or cheddar.
  • 0.5 cup Grated Parmesan Cheese Pecorino Romano can lend a sharper taste.
  • 0.5 cup Shredded Provolone or Asiago Try mixing with fontina.
For the Topping
  • 2 tablespoons Melted Butter Oil can be used for a lighter finish.

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Activate the yeast by combining warm water, sugar, and instant yeast in a mixing bowl. Allow to sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Combine the dry ingredients: bread flour, salt, olive oil, garlic powder, dried oregano, and dried basil. Stir to form a sticky dough.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Let the dough rise in a greased bowl covered with a towel for 1-2 hours until doubled in size.
  5. Fold in half of the shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan into the risen dough.
  6. Transfer the dough to a baking sheet or greased loaf pan. Cover and let rise for 30 minutes.
  7. Brush the top with melted butter, sprinkle remaining cheese and herbs before baking.
  8. Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
