Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and line a baking pan with parchment paper.
- Peel, core, and thinly slice your apples, tossing them with lemon juice to prevent browning.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and cardamom.
- In another bowl, combine the melted butter, sugar, eggs, vanilla, and yogurt and mix until smooth.
- Gradually add the dry mix to the wet ingredients, stirring gently until just combined.
- Spread half of the batter into the prepared pan and layer half the apple slices on top.
- Add dollops of remaining batter and layer the rest of the apple slices on top.
- Mix the topping sugar and cinnamon, then sprinkle over the apple slices.
- Bake for 40–45 minutes until the top is golden and a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let the cake cool in the pan for 10–15 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
