For the Caramel Layer
  • 1 cup Caramel Sauce store-bought or homemade

For the Topping
  • 1 cup Chocolate Chips dark chocolate can provide richer taste
Optional Garnishes
  • to taste Sea Salt for sweet-salty contrast
  • 1/2 cup Additional Pecans for extra crunch and flavor

Equipment

  • 9x9-inch baking dish
  • mixing bowl
  • medium saucepan
  • spatula
  • Microwave-safe bowl
  • sharp knife

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a large mixing bowl, combine cold butter, brown sugar, and flour, mixing until the texture resembles coarse crumbs. Press this mixture evenly into the bottom of a greased 9x9-inch baking dish. Bake for 15–20 minutes, or until the crust is lightly golden and firm to the touch.
  2. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the caramel sauce with pecans while stirring constantly for about 5 minutes until it is smooth and warm. Carefully pour the caramel and pecan mixture over the baked shortbread crust, spreading it evenly with a spatula for full coverage.
  3. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the chocolate chips in 30-second intervals, stirring after each until smooth. This should take about 1 to 2 minutes total. Once melted, pour the chocolate over the caramel layer, using a spatula to spread it into an even layer.
  4. Remove the baking dish from the oven and let it cool at room temperature for about 1 hour. Transfer the dish to the refrigerator for at least 1 hour to set the chocolate layer and firm up the bars.
  5. Once set, use a sharp knife warmed under hot water to cut the Easy Turtle Bars into squares or rectangles. Serve them chilled or at room temperature, and enjoy these delightful treats with family and friends!
