Step-by-Step Instructions
- In a stand mixer bowl, combine warm water, instant yeast, molasses, cocoa powder, vegetable oil, and honey. Mix until blended, then add whole wheat flour and stir until just combined.
- Gradually add bread flour while mixing on medium speed until the dough starts pulling away from the sides of the bowl. Knead for about 5-7 minutes until soft and slightly tacky.
- Transfer the kneaded dough to a greased bowl. Cover and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 to 2 hours until doubled in size.
- Punch the risen dough down, divide it into two or three pieces, shape into loaves, and place on parchment-lined baking sheets. Cover and allow to rise for 45-60 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F. Bake the loaves for approximately 25 minutes until the tops are golden brown.
- Remove from oven, brush with melted salted butter, and sprinkle oats on top. Return to oven for 5-7 minutes.
- Cool on a wire rack for at least 30 minutes before slicing.

Notes
Allow the bread to cool fully for the best texture before slicing. Experiment with add-ins for unique variations.
